My Simple Evening Reset Routine for Working Moms

Mom shutting down her computer at night and checking her Apple Watch sleep meditation and activity rings as part of an evening reset routine for working moms.

Why an Evening Reset Routine for Working Moms Matters

After a long day of work, parenting, and trying to hold everything together, evenings are the one moment where I can actually breathe. I used to crash straight into bed or stay up too late scrolling, but that left me waking up already behind. So I started giving myself a simple, realistic evening reset — nothing fancy, just a few small habits that help me unwind and feel grounded again.

This simple evening reset routine for working moms helps me transition out of work mode and into a calmer, more grounded night.

Here’s what my nightly reset looks like.

1. Shut Down My Workspace with Intention

The first thing I do is close out my workday physically and mentally. I set an alarm 5 minutes before the end of my workday to signal it's time to prepare to turn things off mentally. I turn off my computer, clear my desk of cups and notebooks, plug in my devices, and make sure everything feels “done.”

It’s wild how something as small as closing your laptop can signal to your brain: We’re done for today. You can relax now.

2. Hydrate Before I Reach for Anything Else

Before I change clothes to work out or scroll my phone, I fill up my water bottle. It sounds tiny — but that one habit keeps me from ending the night dehydrated and stressed.

It also helps me slow down enough to transition into mom mode, not work mode.

3. Light Movement or a Quick Stretch

This part changes depending on how the day went and my evening plans with G. Sometimes it’s a Peloton stretch (or a full workout). Sometimes it’s walking around the house picking up toys. Sometimes it’s literally just rolling my shoulders and breathing deep for 30 seconds.

The point is simply to release whatever my body held onto during the day.

4. Slow Down with My Skincare Routine

This is the one part of my night I never skip. My skincare routine is my reset button — it’s quiet, it’s intentional, and it’s the only five minutes that feel like a soft pause just for me.

I wash my face, apply my serums, moisturize, and really take my time massaging everything in. No rushing, no multitasking. Just me, warm water, and a moment to actually take care of myself instead of everyone else.

It’s such a small ritual, but it instantly shifts my energy from “go go go” to “you’re home, you’re safe, you can breathe now.”

5. Set the Tone for Rest

By this point, I’m in bed or on the couch, and this is where the calm kicks in.

Most nights, I turn on a short sleep meditation on my Apple Watch (10 minutes is perfect). It helps me settle my mind instead of lying there thinking about tomorrow’s to-dos.

I don’t always finish the whole meditation — sometimes I’m out before it ends — but the consistency is what helps.

6. Celebrate a Small Win Before I Sleep

This has been my favorite part of the routine. Before lights out, I check my Apple Watch rings or skim my habit tracker just to acknowledge:

I showed up today, even if it wasn’t perfect, even if it was messy, even if I was exhausted.

That small moment of recognition shifts my energy from I didn’t do enough to I actually did plenty.

Why This Simple Routine Works

It doesn’t require hours. It doesn’t require a spa day. It doesn’t require quiet kids or a perfect schedule.

It’s just a handful of realistic habits that help you transition out of “go mode” and into rest.

If you’ve been craving more peace at night, try creating your own soft evening reset. Start small. Choose two habits and build from there. Your future self will thank you every morning.
