My Simple Evening Reset Routine That Actually Works

Mom shutting down her computer at night and checking her Apple Watch sleep meditation and activity rings as part of an evening reset routine for working moms.

For the longest time, my evenings felt chaotic.

I would finish work already drained, go straight into mom mode, and by the time my son went to bed, I had nothing left for myself. No structure. No reset. Just exhaustion and scrolling my phone until I fell asleep.

And then I’d wake up the next day feeling behind… again.

I realized I didn’t need a perfect routine.

I needed a system that worked even when I was tired, busy, and didn’t feel like doing anything.

Why your evening reset routine doesn't work

Most evening reset routines you see online assume you have unlimited time and energy. That’s not real life.

If you’re working, taking care of a toddler, and trying to build something for yourself, you don’t need more to do.

You need a structure that tells you what to do without having to think.

What actually changed for me

I stopped trying to “figure it out” every night.

I built a simple system that:

  • tells me what time I do things

  • removes decision fatigue

  • works on both high-energy and low-energy days

This is what that actually looks like.

My real evening reset system (this is what I follow)

5:00–5:15 — Reset Transition

This is the most important part of my entire routine. If I skip this, my whole night feels off.

  • Change clothes

  • Mentally reset from work

  • No phone scrolling

5:15–6:00 — Workout (Mon/Wed/Thurs)

OR

5:15–6:00 — Intentional Time with My Son (Tues/Fri)

  • I either ride or I’m fully present with him

  • No multitasking

  • No “half doing both”

This removes the guilt of feeling like I should be doing something else

6:00–9:00 — Life Block (Protected)

  • Dinner around 6:30

  • Playtime + wind down

  • Bedtime routine

No pressure to be productive. No “I should be doing more”. This is my intentional motherhood time.

9:00–10:30 — Focus Block (Autopilot)

This is where everything changed for me. I stopped deciding what to do at night.

I follow a set schedule:

  • Monday → Blog + Pinterest content

  • Tuesday → Blog + Pinterest content

  • Wednesday → Life Planning (scheduling, writing)

  • Thursday → Video + Edits

  • Friday → Self-Care

I don’t think. I just follow the plan.

10:30 — Shut Down

No “just one more thing”. That’s how I protect my energy for the next day.

Kiera Cheat Code

I didn’t build a routine. I built a default plan for my evenings. So when I’m tired, overwhelmed, or don’t feel like doing anything, I don’t have to make a decision.

I just follow what’s already been decided. That’s what makes consistency possible.

What makes this system easier to stick to

This system only works because I made it easy to follow.

That means:

  • I don’t search for things

  • I don’t overthink what to do

  • I don’t rely on motivation

I have go-to setups that remove friction from my evenings.

If you want to simplify your routine too, these are the exact things I use daily:

If you feel overwhelmed, do this instead

Don’t try to do everything. Do the minimum version:

  • 15 minutes

  • One task

  • Then stop

Consistency matters more than doing everything perfectly

Final thoughts

If your evenings feel chaotic, it’s not because you need more discipline.

It’s because you’re making too many decisions at the wrong time of day.

Build a system. Follow it. Adjust it as needed.

That’s how you stay consistent without burning out.

If you want a shortcut, I’ve already done the trial and error for you:

Kiera Laeka
